Muscle Injuries Don’t Just Eventually Heal!

Many people with chronic or acute muscle injury resort to daily use of over-the-counter pain medications to get through the day.  This works for a little while, but it is only masking the pain, and subsequently, the bigger issue.  This path to healing never gets to the root of the problem causing the pain, and the result is an injury that never heals itself.  Additionally, continually taking pain medication can cause long-term damage to your organs, and as time goes on, you need more and more of the medication to put a dent in the pain. This cycle of pain management can be dangerous, addictive, and will usually not give you the result you are looking for.

What Causes Chronic and Acute Muscle Pain?

Studies have shown that the main culprit behind chronic and acute muscle pain are trigger points, small knots that form in the myofascial tissue that covers your muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Myofascial tissue is integral in muscle movement and protection.  This thin, strong, and fibrous tissue provides support for muscles, joints, and bones, and when Trigger Points form in the tissue, this leads to extreme and chronic pain.

The release of trigger point knots can provide immediate relief!   During your first visit, your team will locate any trigger points that are causing you pain and discomfort.  While sudden movement and obvious trauma can often form Trigger Points, poor posture, sleep positions, nutritional deficiencies, sedentary behavior, repetitive trauma, and a lack of exercise and stretching can also create Trigger Points.

Trigger Points can radiate pain to many other areas of the body.  Releasing these points of tension can provide relief to areas that you wouldn’t believe are associated with a knot in your shoulder!  When your muscles experience a trigger point injury, a ripple effect can occur throughout your entire body.  The trigger point becomes so painful, that you quit using that muscle, and the surrounding areas are forced to overcompensate.  This compensation leads to all the other areas surrounding the trigger point becoming overworked and strained.  This radiated pain, often called referred pain, can cause pain in completely separate parts of the body.  This lack of equilibrium in the body can cause your body to not be aligned properly, and suddenly, you have a buffet of painful issues you’re dealing with, all from a knot in your neck or shoulder!  If you have pain in your back, legs, shoulders, head, joints, jawbone, pelvis, or a ringing in your ears, a trigger point may be your source of pain.  Come visit us TODAY to locate and relieve your trigger point pain!

Discover Natural and Noninvasive Treatments for Your Muscle Pain and Muscle Injury!

At Integrated Spine and Joint in Franklin, TN, we offer an array of holistic and natural treatments to give you long lasting relief for your muscle pain and injury.  We offer the following options:

Trigger Point Injections: Trigger point injections are known as one of the most effective ways to treat muscle injuries!  This quick, safe, and natural approach can provide immediate pain relief, and are a much healthier alternative to prescription medication.  Trigger point injections can release the tension in all surrounding areas.  This natural injection of Serapin, a natural substance derived from the pitcher plant, can affect the nerves surrounding your trigger point.   As the injured muscle relaxes, the surrounding areas, that have been picking up the slack, can also relaxed and get back to their individual jobs.  As your body starts to return to an equal state, you can feel immediate relief and you will have an extra skip in your step as you leave our office!  It’s important to continue to stretch and use the affected muscle, so it does not become tight again.  Your customized care plan will include exercises and stretches to keep the trigger points away and your muscles happy and healthy.

Active Release Therapy (ART):  ART is a patented, sate of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats injuries with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves.  This technique is especially beneficial for overworked muscles that are suffering from repetitive motion, such as serving a tennis ball or manual labor.  Your ART session consists of a manual examination, where hands are used to evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of your individual muscles, and when abnormal tissue is found, a precise and directed tension allows for immediate release.  The treatment protocol has over 500 specific tension moves to locate and relieve your acute and/or chronic muscle pain.

Exercise Training:  Your individualized treatment plan will also include exercise training elements.  Studies have shown that chiropractic work is most effective when done alongside exercise.  (Much like most things in life!)  These exercises are determined and supervised by your team and can lead to restored function, and also aim to allow you to regain confidence in the injured area.  Often, we don’t use the injured muscle, because it hurts, and we are scared to hurt it more.  We put rest and inactivity in the same book as surgery and pain medication, the older treatment plans that just don’t work.  Continual and safe movement is the quickest way back to a healthy and happy muscle.  Chiropractic care with an individualized training program lets you be an active participant in your healing, the MVP on your team headed for pain free living!

Kinesio Tape Treatment: This innovative treatment can be used to help with alignment, rehabilitation, and pain management.  This rehabilitative taping technique allows the body to heal itself by providing stability and support to affected muscles and joints without restricting range of motion.  The tape is hypoallergenic, water-resistant, and has the ability to relax or stimulate muscles.    As it lifts the skin, the space created allows for nutrients and blood to flow into the injured area, reducing pressure, inflammation, and pain.  Kinesio Tape can be applied over 100 different ways, and can be very successful in returning the body to an equal state.

Dry Needling: Dry needling, a type of trigger point therapy, involves inserting an acupuncture needle directly into an active trigger point, immediately followed by specific manipulation of the needle with the goal of eliminating the trigger point.  This safe and effective intervention for trigger points can be extremely effective.  Patients are often surprised and by how easy and pain-free this technique turns out to be.

We offer these treatments, and many more, all focused on treating the whole body to be the best it can be.  Don’t let pain keep disrupting your life.  Discover our holistic and natural treatments, and start feeling better today!
